What process should you select?

There is a process required to develop each film type. Check your film roll or camera for the following markings to order the best option for your images.

Color (C-41)

A process that results in a color negative. (Sometimes labeled as CN-16).

Black & White

A classic process that results in a black and white negative.

Color Positive (E-6 Slide)

Reversal process that yields color-positive transparencies with high contrast and accurate color.

CINE (ECN-2)

Motion-picture negative process using a rem-jet backing for smoother grain, wide dynamic range, and cinematic color.

Push or Pull

Pushing/Pulling film changes the development time to make photos brighter or darker. We recommend selecting ‘Normal’.

Understanding Push or Pull

What is Push/Pull and how it works?

All films behave differently depending on how much light they received during exposure. Therefore, each film profile in Dehancer Film in fact consists of 3 separate profiles. Each profile is defined by its own sampling conditions:

Normal exposure
Underexposed: Push/Pull = -2
Overexposed: Push/Pull = +2

Changes in the Push/Pull setting result in darker or lighter image, changing color and contrast – just like with real film. Film type defines the character of changes.

For expired film, we recommend Push +1 for each decade of expiration.

Which scanner is right for me?

Both scanners create beautiful results, but each has unique strengths. See below for details and visual examples so you can select the best fit for your needs.

Noritsu HS-1800

Look & feel: Crisp, sharp detail with a slightly more neutral/modern colour profile.
Best for: When you want maximum fine detail, subtle tones, or need flexibility for editing.
Great with: Colour negative film, B&W film, and high-contrast scenes.

Fuji Frontier SP-3000

Look & feel: Smooth, rich colour with a softer, more filmic aesthetic straight out of the scan.
Best for: Natural skin tones, warm highlights, and that classic Frontier “glow.”
Great with: Portraits, wedding photography, and any film you want to look timeless.

Epson 12000XL (4x5 Sheet and 8x10 Sheet only)

Look & feel: Ultra-clean, high-fidelity scans with accurate, neutral colour and exceptional detail across shadows and highlights thanks to 48-bit colour depth, high optical resolution, and a wide Dmax.
Best for: Large-format originals, fine art, archival material and mixed media where colour accuracy, tonal range and high resolution are critical.
Great with: Artwork reproduction, museum/archival scanning, graphic-arts prepress, and any project that needs precise, museum-quality digitisation of prints, transparencies or documents.
